Summary
Until 1920 the Boans furniture factory was at 730 Welllington Street in Perth (source: 1916 Post Office Directory). It was located on the northern side of the street between Melbourne Road and Love Lane (now in 2024 Milligan Street and approximately the Mitchell Freeway). The site was later the Metropolitan Markets and by 2012 the site of Perth Arena. A new furniture factory was built and opened by Boans in East Perth in early 1921 (source: West Australian 26/5/1921, p.9). Photographs of furniture being built as well as mattresses being made. BA1627/6 is a photograph of Stanford Nottage (father of Edgar Nottage) who was a machinist working at the Boans Furniture Factory. BA1627/7 is a photograph of the factory manager Arthur A. Bocking with L. Stringer. (Joseph Leonard Stringer was later also manager of the factory)
