Summary
Stephen (Steve) Magyar joined the Greens (WA) in 1990, the year it was formed. He was a member of the Moore-Cowan Regional Group. In 1993 Steve ran for the first time as a candidate in the State election for the seat of Wanneroo. Steve ran a further four times as a candidate, twice in the Federal seat of Moore (in 1993 and 1998) and the State seat of Joondalup (in 1996 and 2001). He was also very active in local council elections and ran as a branded Greens (WA) candidate in the 1992 and 1993 elections. In 1994 Steve was elected to the Shire of Wanneroo Council, serving as a councillor until 1997. He had a particular interest in environmental issues and was chair of the Council’s Environmental Advisory Committee and the Conservation Advisory Committee. Steve was also the community representative on a community advisory committee aimed at protecting the wetlands of the Gnangara Mound. Steve was a councillor on the City of Joondalup Council between 1999-2001 and 2003-05. He continued to run as a candidate up to 2009.
