Summary
Stewart Jackson was a key figure in the early days of the Greens (WA) developing a Constitution, structure and staff. He joined the Party in April 1990 and played an important role in the Greens (WA) opening an office and employing part-time staff based on members making a regular pledged donation to the Party. Stewart has run as a Greens Lower House candidate in three State elections, firstly in 1993, then 1996 and lastly in 2001. He was the Perth Regional Group’s permanent representative at Reps Council for four years from August 1992. Stewart was the Secretary of the Representatives Council from 1991-93 and 1999-2001, and the Representatives Council Co-convenor from 1995-96. Stewart has also been the Coordinator of the Newsletter Working Group from 1991-92 and the editor of Green Issue International issues published four times a year. He was also the Coordinator of the Administration Working Group, International Working Group and Economic Working Group. Stewart followed up his 1999 Honours thesis at Edith Cowan University titled, Parliamentary Impact of Greens (WA)- 1993-1999, with a PhD thesis at the University of Sydney in 2011 titled, The Australian Greens: Between Movement and Electoral Professional Party. Now an academic at the University of Sydney, Stewart has worked also for the NSW Greens in 2007 and was National Convenor of the Australian Greens from 2003-05. He worked for MLC Chrissy Sharp here in WA and for NSW Greens MP Michael Organ. Stewart is currently completing a biography of Greens (WA) first Senator, Jo Vallentine.
