Summary
This accident is described in an article published in the Western Argus 18 September 1923, p.7. The article describes the train in the foreground, locomotive "3", as being driven by McQuoid. This could refer to either the photographer's father Edward (Ned) McQuoid or his brother William (Bill) McQuoid. Newspaper articles describe the crash as happening at Mt Goddard, 18 miles from Kalgoorlie.

Title devised by cataloguer. Written on back of print for BA2797/46: "Head-on collision at "18 Mile Post", 10 September 1923. Photo: Locomotive "3" is closest to camera, with Ella behind. On the Lakeside Firewood Co. railway, between Celebration and White Hope. Both built by Beyer Peacock & Co., Manchester. "3" was No. 5181/1908 and Ella was No. 5464/1911. Both were sold to the W.A. Goldfields Firewood Supply Co., Kurrawang in 1924 becoming "6" and "4" respectively." Caption written on negative BA2797/122 (282128PD): Head on collision, Lakeside Woodline September 1923 Loco No.3.
