Summary
Left-right: A.H. Hayman, C.J. Lennon, J.H. Leverett, R.E. Althaber, J. Leslie (O.I.C.), J. Green (Mechanic). The Broome Radio Telegraph Station later generally called the Broome Wireless Station was built in 1913. All men except A.H. Hayman are found in the 1916 Australian Electoral Roll giving the Broome Radio Station as place of work. A.H. Hayman is listed in newspaper passenger lists as arriving in Broome in 1913. By 1916 he had returned to New Zealand where he enlisted 29/1/1916 in the N.Z. Wireless Corps (see photograph at BA318/96/58 and his enlistment document online). The station used morse code and wireless technology to communicate with merchant shipping.
