The turbo-electric driven vessel the George H. Evans arrived at Dampier on 8 May 1969 to augment generating capacity at Dampier until construction of the new steam turbine power station. (Hamersley News 23 May 1969, p.1). She was sent to the wreckers in early 1971, Hamersley News January 1971, p.5 reports her still in Dampier (see footnote) but about to go to the wreckers.
