Item Detail
Summary
The Hamersley railway crosses the Chichester Range, climbing up from the coastal plain to the broad Fortescue River valley, and then after crossing that river, on through the Hamersley Range following Weelamurra Creek. The maximum grade on the Hamersley track is up through the Chichesters, and it was the first section of the line to be double-tracked - apart from the passing loops. The Chichester Range represents the northern margins of the Hamersley Basin, stretching from around Roy Hill in the east to Yarraloola in the west.
