Summary
Portrait photo of Bessie Laffer nee Rouse, dressed in fancy dress for the Roebourne Ball in 1898. She's wearing an Indian headdress, with black elbow-length gloves, sleeveless decorated floor length dress, with a fringed, tartan throw rug around her shoulders. Bessie was the school teacher at the Cossack state school. Daughter of William Rouse ex-99th Regiment of Foot (Lanarkshire) and warder at Roebourne Gaol. She was born in 1867 in Natal South Africa where William was posted with the army. (information supplied by local historians Sept. 2016) While she is named as Bessie Laffer on the Electoral Roll until 1919 after that year she is listed as Elizabeth Laffer. she is buried as Elizabeth Laffer in Karrakatta Cemetery.
