Summary

Speaks of his early family life and the early influences and styles of music impacting on his music development. He attended the Music School at Churchlands Senior High School and went on to study music composition at the Univserity of Western Australia. He discusses the Music School at the University of Western Australia, its styles and influences; studying composition with John Exton and Roger Smalley; serialism technique; early composition influences; his early ensembles Trio Grand (Wind Trio), Tonights Ensemble. He talks of- the early years of the New Music scene in Perth - venues and styles, musicians -Cathy Travers, Tos Mahoney, Evos New Music; his involvement with many ensembles Decibel, Magnetic Pig, SQUINT, Candied Limb and with artists such as Paul Tanner, Amy Knoles and Cat Hope; interactive electronic music with experimental programmed interfaces; development and use of programs (eg Maximus, sampling programs) to interface with classical instruments. In discussion of his many compositions, scores and performances he outlines the development of New Music and provides his definition of New Music.
