Summary
Book caption: It does rain in the desert sometimes! On this occasion our party was trying to reach an oil-drilling rig in the northern part of the Great Sandy Desert during July, the dry season. Unfortunately freak rains in June had exceeded the total received in Perth that month, 250 mm! Some desert country can become very soft after rain but the more sandy stretches remain firm.
