Item Detail
Summary
Book caption: Below Roy Hill homestead the eastern Fortescue discharges into an enormous salt marsh 100 km long and 10 km wide. It is not a salt lake as the whole area is vegetated and salt does not appear on the surface. At the Roy Hill end there is a saltbush community with Atriplex cinerea, Eremophila aff. pterocarpa and Enchylaena tomentosa, but seen here halfway along the marsh it is a samphire community with a red samphire Pachycornia triandra dominant and a yellowish species Halosarcia halocnemoides with it. Other species present include Atriplex eardleyae, Eremophila sp., Maireana luehmanii. A number of annuals may appear in a good season, which it was not when the photograph was taken. Marillana station.
