Summary
Beris Jean Booth (nee Cannon) was born in Kalgoorlie, 1936. After nursing experience, marriage and children, Mrs Booth and her family moved to Carnarvon where she became the first Silver Chain Sister, serving 1970-1977. She describes the conditions at the Aboriginal Reserve in Carnarvon and reports on the work she and the Community Health Sister were involved with there. Native Welfare became Community Welfare while she was there and she traces some of the improvements in health, housing and conditions for the people who lived on the Reserve. She later moved to Perth, where she became a District Nurse and then Home Help Supervisor from 1980-1984, at the time of the transition from Home Help Nurse Assessors to Trained Nurse Assessors.
