Item Detail
Summary
Book caption: "Fortunately in a good season the Nullarbor Plain presents quite a different aspect. The bluebush is more luxuriant and is filled in with a lush growth of the annual grass Stipa nitida, flowers such as Podolepis and Helipterum, and numerous other herbs. This appearance deceived two surveyors. Mason and Yonge, who had to walk out 260 km in 1896 after Aborigines had driven off their camels, and reported that they had discovered millions of acres of the finest agricultural and pastoral land in the world! It is obvious that they cannot have seen it in the conditions of Fig 4.5. Near Rawlinna, 1968."
