Item Detail
Summary
Book caption: The most typical formation of the Swan Coastal Plain is the banksia low woodland which covers the extensive poor leached sands of the Bassendean dune system. Moisture storage in these sands is insufficient to permit larger trees to survive the dry season. Scattered larger trees of first casuarina and then jarrah appear more and more towards the south as rainfall increases. Three species of banksia are represented, B. attenuata and B. menziesii with B. ilicifolia in low-lying places. The undergrowth consists of intensely sclerophyllous small shrubs, sedges and Restionaceae.
