Summary
The house on the left is the home of Alfred James Hillman (1841-1884) son of Alfred Hillman (1807-1883) who lived at Ivy Cottage Lot L24 St Georges Terrace on the southern (opposite) side of the terrace. At right is the house A.H. Stone has labelled W. Knight. Home of William Henry Knight (1840-1881) who had married in 1861. W.H. Knight was the eldest son of William Knight (1802-1881) who built the grand Mount House (1851) in Mount Street. Bishop Hale's School was built in 1858 as a secondary school for boys. It was established and funded with a grant from the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge and Bishop Hale's own donation. The school was called the 'Perth Church of England Collegiate School' (colloquially known as 'Bishop Hale's School'), and was the first secondary school established in the Swan River Colony. The building was later (1904) known as The Cloisters.
