BA2226/43: Sons of Gwalia plant vat, October 1957

Summary

The surface plant of the Sons of Gwalia gold mine.Notes supplied by photographer: BA2226/1-3 taken from the vicinity of the mine office looking south west. BA2226/4-6 looking south from further west along the mine hill. BA2226/7-10 the mine office, the mine from the mine hill and two views of the mine from the west. BA2226/9 shows staff housing above the mine. BA2226/10 from the west across the flat towards the gas producers and the engine room. BA2226/11-16 are of the poppet head (headframe), BA2226/15 shows the grill onto which the ore was dumped, sliding then into the rotary crusher. BA2226/17 shows the welding and machine shops as seen from the headframe. BA2226/18 is the left hand side skip on the foot of the ramp whilst loading of the open skip is taking place. The men going underground sat two abreast on planks put in the skip. BA2226/19 to the ore bins. BA2226/44-45 shows the mine mess. BA2226/46-48 the skip room and the boilers. BA2226/49-51 show the battery. BA2226/52-54 show the rolling mills. BA2226/55-57 in the engine room. BA2226/58 is the Oliver Filters used to extract the gold bearing ore.
