Summary
Former residence of Peter Broun from 1832-1834, but was originally built by the Henty brothers in 1830 from bricks made of local clay. Originally known as Stoke Farm, Broun renamed it Bassendean after the family manor in Scotland. In 1922 the suburb of West Guildford was renamed Bassendean in honour of Broun and the homestead. The building was demolished in 1946 even though it was reportedly the oldest brick structure in the Perth Metropolitan area. Before demolition, a watercolour of the homestead was painted by a young local boy, Rolf Harris. The original is in the possession of the Bassendean Town Council. (Information supplied 2013)
