Summary

The Kimberley Male was transported to Chinatown to be a tourist attraction. She was renovated and renamed Sam Male and officially unveiled at the 1977 Shinju Matsuri. (see 297257PD) Information from slide mounts and p.4 of the 1978 Shinju Matsuri souvenir programme. - The Shire of Broome purchased the 'Kimberley Male' lugger, now known as the Sam Male lugger, from Pearls Pty Limited on 1 July 1977. For a number of years the lugger was located on the median strip in Chinatown. (Agenda for a Broome Council Meeting 2/9/2009)
