Item Detail
Summary
A view of Bunbury which shows evidence of the 1st survey of Bunbury (1841) by Asst Surveyor, Henry Mortlock Ommanney. The small building with the red roof situated on the shores of the 'Lagoon' is understood to be Mr. Knight's house which later became part of the Convict Depot buildings in Stephen Street. To the north of Bunbury are buildings. Those nearest the water are Mr. Wm Kernot Shenton's residence etc. The buildings stretched across two land allotments which belonged to Surveyor H.M. Ommanney - Lots 65 & 66 and faced the main street (shown), Victoria Street. Note: Lt R.A. Ffarington arrived in W.A. in 1843 and departed in 1847. (Information supplied Sept. 2016)
