Item Detail
Summary
The photographs accompany the story of the shooting at the Strand Cafe on 23 August 1929. Mrs Ethel Vittoria Vincent (27) shot and wounded Frederick Charles Grey (31) after he accuses her of affairs with jockeys. Her bruises, which could have been caused by falls, are described in detail. Grey had left his wife and children for Vincent. The Strand Cafe chef demands to know "Why in the heck didn't they go down the Esplanade or somewhere to settle it!" In the subsequent court case Grey is proved to be a cad who had not told Ethel Vincent he was married and when she found out and left him he would not leave her alone. Ethel Vincent is aquitted on grounds of self defence. The portrait of Grey at 049738PD is published with the report of the court case.
