Summary
The Mt Newman Iron Ore Railroad was officially opened by Sir David Brand on 22 Jan. 1969. The Mt Newman Mining Co. iron ore mine is at Mount Whaleback. The venture takes its name from a peak 21km north of Mount Whaleback named after surveyor Aubrey Woodward Newman. (Newman-Nelson Point, 1992, p.2)
