Photographs relating to the rescue of Modesto Varischetti who was trapped for nine days in the flooded Westralia & Eastern Extension Mine in Bonnie Vale in 1907. 4941B/1-7 are photographs taken from the Kalgoorlie Western Argus, 16 April 1907 credited to F. Martyn ; 4941B/8-11 are photographs of the unveilling of a plaque to commemorate Varischetti's rescue by George Spencer Compton in 1964 ; 4941B/12-14 are undated photographs of the locomotive that took divers and their equipment to Coolgarie for the rescue.
