Caption title. Title written on photograph in a different hand to the names of the men written on the back. According to George Medcalf's diary, this photo was taken on 10 January 1915 (the same day the Battalion was photographed on the Cheops Pyramid). However, research shows that Pte Whitwell who appears in the photograph joined the unit from the 1st Reinforcements who arrived in Egypt in February 1915. Also, the men are dressed differently, less casually, than they did when photographed on the pyramid. Researcher M. Cullity advises that this photograph was probably taken on 21 February 1915 because the men only had Sunday afternoons free to leave camp and go sightseeing and because that date was the only Sunday after the 1st reinforcements joined their Sections before 28 February when the Battalion left Cairo for Mudros. Cullity April 2019) Written on the back of the photograph: Left to right: Back: Sgt Parry, Pte Pleydell, L/Corp Procter, Pte George, Pte Rae, Pte Albrecht, Pte Lindsey, Pte Clifton; Centre: Sgt Pugsley, Pte Bunning, Pte Whitwell, Pte George, Pte Medcalf, Pte Kite; Front: Pte Thomas and Pte Joyce. The man named at Pte George in the back row is James Robert George. The man named as Pte George between Whitwell and Medcalf in the centre row is unknown.
