Message on band reads: 13 naufrages sont refugees sur les iles Crozet 4 Aout 1887. Translation : 13 shipwrecked sailors have taken refuge on the Crozet Islands 4 August 1887.Dead albatross found on North Beach on 20 September 1887 with a tin band around its neck with the message noted above.
