Item Detail
Summary
The White Horse Hotel, third building from the left, operated from about 1880 but was destroyed with most of Cossack's buildings in a hurricane in March 1882. The hotel was rebuilt but the destruction was repeated in 1898. William Thomas Craig (b.1857), whose name appears in the photograph on the roof of the White Horse Hotel verandah, was granted a licence for the hotel in March 1882. In the mid 1880s he gave up the business due to his wife Harriet's alcoholism. The building at far left is E. Kay Courthope's General Store (see sign on side of building).
