Summary
Rio Tinto advise that this shipment was a trial run before the official first shipment on the Houn Maru which left port 22 Aug. 1966. - Dampier Port Authority mention only the Tachikawa Maru in their history - "Within the port, Hamersley initially constructed a general cargo wharf across which construction materials and domestic supplies were landed, and the Parker Point ore wharf which was designed to accept vessels up to 60,000 DWT. The first shipment took place on 16th August 1966 when the MV "Tachikawa Maru" sailed with 20,000 tons of lump ore for Japan."
